Buying a watch from abroad
Watches carry the heaviest customs of anything we handle, and are still one of the best things to buy from abroad. Both of those are true, and here is why.

Two facts that sound contradictory, and are not.
Watches carry the heaviest customs of anything we handle. On a $400 watch, the customs line alone is around EGP 13,510 — roughly four times what a pair of $349 headphones attracts, despite being similar money.
Watches are still one of the best categories to buy from abroad. That same $400 watch lands at about EGP 41,716, which is roughly 2.1× the dollar price — better than shoes, far better than anything bulky.
Both are true because customs is only one of the costs. A watch is small and dense, so everything that is charged on size or weight is close to nothing. The heavy customs is offset by the fact that a watch takes up almost no room.

Why buy a watch from abroad at all
The Egyptian market for watches is thin above a certain level, and authorised dealers carry a narrow selection at prices set locally. The same reference from an American retailer, even after customs and our work, is frequently the cheaper of the two — and it is often the only way to get a specific dial or a discontinued reference at all.
This is one of the categories where the arithmetic genuinely works, which is not something we say about most.
What to check before you commit
The reference number, not the name. "Tissot PRX" is a family with a dozen variants: different dials, movements, bracelets, and prices that differ by hundreds of dollars. The reference number — the long code on the product page — is the only unambiguous identifier. Send that.
Quartz or automatic. The most common way people order the wrong watch. The two versions of the same model look nearly identical in photographs, cost very different amounts, and are quite different objects.
Whether the seller is authorised. Large American watch retailers are grey-market: genuine watches, bought legitimately, sold outside the brand's own dealer network. That is why they are cheaper. The consequence is that the manufacturer's warranty usually does not apply; the retailer provides its own instead. For many people that trade is worth it. You should make it knowingly.
Bracelet sizing. A steel bracelet is sized by removing links, which needs doing here. Budget for a visit to a watchmaker.
What is in the box. Full set, papers, spare strap — these change both the price and the resale value. Check what the listing actually includes.
The risks, plainly
Warranty. Grey-market means the retailer's warranty, not the brand's. Service in Egypt for a watch bought abroad may be at your own cost.
Sizing and adjustment are yours to arrange after delivery.
Resale. A watch without its papers is worth less. If you may sell it one day, buy the full set.
None of those are reasons not to do it. They are reasons to know what you are buying.
How it works here
Send us the link with the reference number and whether you want quartz or automatic. A person comes back with one fixed price in Egyptian pounds, everything inside, usually within hours. XOONX carries the customs cost and the customs risk — on a category taxed this heavily, that is the part worth having. Nothing is collected at your door.
You pay 20% to confirm, we buy it, and the balance is due before delivery.
There are watches already priced on the Shop if you want to see real landed numbers, and the calculator will estimate any other. If you are weighing this against other categories, what it really costs to buy from America to Egypt puts watches next to everything else.
