Buying perfume and cosmetics from America

Two categories that look identical from the outside and behave completely differently once you price them. One is among the better things to import; the other is among the worse.

People usually ask about these together, and they should not, because they behave very differently.

From our calculator on 7 September 2026:

US priceLands atMultiple
Perfume, 100 ml$95EGP 11,0072.3×
Cosmetics set$60EGP 13,0864.3×

Similar money in dollars. Nearly twice the multiple on the cosmetics. A $60 set landing at over thirteen thousand pounds surprises people, and it is worth understanding before you order rather than after.

Why perfume does well and a cosmetics set does not

Perfume is dense and valuable. A 100 ml bottle is small, heavy for its size, and carries a lot of value. Everything charged on size costs almost nothing, so the multiple stays low even though perfume is taxed heavily.

A cosmetics set is the opposite. Palettes, brushes and boxed sets are large, light and comparatively cheap — a lot of presentation around a little product. Space is charged as though it were weight (the full explanation), so a big pretty box is an expensive thing to bring in.

The rule that falls out: the more concentrated the value, the better the maths. A single expensive serum does better than a large kit of inexpensive things.

What is actually worth it

Usually yes

Perfume, especially anything not sold in Egypt

Single high-value skincare — a serum, a treatment, a prescription-strength product

A specific shade or formulation nobody here stocks

Refills and full sizes rather than travel sets

Usually no

Large gift sets and holiday boxes

Palettes and brush kits

Anything you can buy in Egypt for a similar figure — the local market for mainstream beauty is deeper than it used to be

Small drugstore items, one at a time

Two things worth checking before you order

Restrictions. Cosmetics are one of the categories where what may be brought into Egypt is not always intuitive, and it varies by what the thing is. Anything with a medicinal claim is treated differently from ordinary make-up. If you are unsure, ask before you decide you want it — a person here will tell you plainly, including when the answer is no.

Authenticity. Perfume and cosmetics are the two most counterfeited categories on the internet, and the fakes are good. Some practical rules:

Buy from the brand's own site or a large American retailer, not a marketplace seller you have never heard of.

A price far below everyone else's is the signal, not the bargain.

Be careful with "tester" and "unboxed" listings; they are sometimes genuine and sometimes a story.

On any marketplace, check which seller you are actually buying from, not just the product page.

We buy from the shops themselves rather than from resellers, which removes most of this — but if you send us a link to a marketplace listing, it is worth a second look together first.

Shelf life and heat

Two practical notes people forget. Fragrance and active skincare do not love heat, and Egypt is hot; store them out of the sun and away from a bathroom window. And check the batch or expiry where a product has one — a discounted item is occasionally discounted because it is near the end of its life.

How it works here

Send us the link with the exact size and shade, and we come back with one fixed price in Egyptian pounds — product, shipping, Egyptian customs and our work, all inside, usually within hours. You pay 20% to start, the rest before delivery, and nothing at your door.

There are already-priced items on the Shop, and if you want to weigh this category against others, what it really costs to buy from America to Egypt puts them side by side.

Want the number for the thing you actually want?

Send us the link and a person comes back with one fixed final price in Egyptian pounds — everything included, nothing to pay at your door.
