Buying beauty from Ulta and Sephora in Egypt

The two shops people ask for by name, and a category that splits sharply: one expensive serum prices well, a boxed set of inexpensive things does not.

Ulta and Sephora are the two American beauty shops Egyptians ask for by name, and neither delivers here in any useful way. The good news is that this category behaves predictably once you know the rule.

The rule: one expensive thing beats a box of cheap ones

From our calculator on 7 September 2026:

US priceLands atMultiple
A single serum$120EGP 19,2283.2×
A cosmetics set$60EGP 13,0864.3×
Perfume, 100 ml$95EGP 11,0072.3×

Perfume is the standout because a bottle is small, dense and valuable. A serum does respectably for the same reason. A boxed set does worst: palettes, brushes and gift boxes are large, light and comparatively cheap — a lot of packaging around a little product, and space is charged as though it were weight (why).

One more thing worth knowing: buying several small items together helps a lot here. Five serums ordered together come out about 15% cheaper per unit than five separate orders — far more than the 2% you would save on something dense and expensive.

What to buy from these two

Worth it

Perfume, especially anything with no Egyptian distribution

A single high-value serum or treatment

A specific shade or formulation nobody here stocks

Full sizes rather than travel or gift sets

Several small items in one order

Not worth it

Holiday and gift sets

Palettes and brush kits

Mainstream beauty the Egyptian market carries — the local selection is deeper than it used to be

One inexpensive item on its own

Counterfeits, and why the seller matters

Beauty and fragrance are among the most counterfeited categories on the internet, and the fakes are convincing. From Egypt you have no practical way to send something back, so where you buy matters more than what you pay.

We buy from the shops themselves rather than from resellers, which removes most of this. If you send us a marketplace listing from a seller nobody recognises, expect us to say so. A price far below everyone else's is the warning, not the bargain.

Restrictions

Cosmetics are one of the categories where what may be brought into Egypt is not always intuitive, and anything with a medicinal or treatment claim is treated differently from ordinary make-up. Ask before you decide you want it. We will tell you plainly, including when the answer is no, and we will not describe a product as something it is not to make an order easier.

Heat and shelf life

Two practical notes. Active skincare and fragrance do not love heat, and Egypt is hot — keep them out of the sun and away from a bathroom window. And check the batch or expiry where a listing shows one; a discounted item is occasionally discounted because it is near the end of its life.

How it works here

Send the link with the exact size and shade and we come back with one fixed price in Egyptian pounds, everything inside, usually within hours. There are beauty products already priced on our Ulta page, and the fuller version of this advice is in buying perfume and cosmetics from America.
