Buying from iHerb when you live in Egypt

The shop Egyptians ask about most for supplements — and the category with the worst arithmetic we price. Both things are true, and here is how to decide.

iHerb comes up more than any other shop when Egyptians ask us about supplements. It is worth being straight about the arithmetic before you fill a basket, because this is the category that prices worst of anything we handle.

The numbers, plainly

From our calculator on 7 September 2026:

US priceLands atMultiple
Tub of protein, 900 g$50EGP 11,9364.7×
Small vitamin bottle$22EGP 6,0225.4×

Note that the *cheaper* item has the *worse* ratio. That is not a mistake. The fixed costs of bringing anything into Egypt are much the same whether the thing inside is worth $22 or $2,200, so on a small cheap item those costs are the entire story. Supplements are also large and light, and space is charged as though it were weight — the explanation.

So when is iHerb still right?

Often, actually. The multiple is the wrong thing to look at on its own.

When it does not exist in Egypt. A specific formulation, a particular brand, a dose not sold here. There is no comparison to make — 5× of a small number is still a small number, and if it is the one that works for you, that may simply be worth paying.

When you order several at once. This is the category where ordering together helps most, because the fixed costs dominate. Small items bought five at a time come out about 15% cheaper per unit than five separate orders. If you take three or four supplements, order three or four.

When it is concentrated. A small bottle of a costly active carries enough value to absorb the fixed costs. A bulk tub of cheap powder does not.

When to buy in Egypt instead

Mass-market multivitamins and bulk protein. Egyptian pharmacies and sports shops stock these, and you will pay more to bring them than the powder cost.

Anything you take continuously and can source locally. The saving compounds every month.

One small bottle on its own. Wait until you want three, or add it to another order.

The restrictions, which matter here more than anywhere

Supplements sit near the line between food and medicine, and what may be brought into Egypt is not always intuitive. Anything with a medicinal claim is treated differently from an ordinary vitamin, and some ingredients are restricted outright.

Two things we will not do: describe a medicine as a supplement to make an order easier, and take your money for something that will not arrive. Ask before you decide you want it — we will tell you plainly, including when the answer is no.

Practical notes

Send the exact product page, not the brand. iHerb lists many sizes and strengths of the same thing at very different prices.

Check the expiry date on the listing where it shows one. A discount is sometimes a discount for a reason.

Heat matters. Some supplements do not enjoy an Egyptian summer; store them accordingly.

How it works here

Send us the links — several together, ideally — and a person comes back with one fixed price in Egyptian pounds, everything inside, usually within hours. If our honest answer is that you should buy it at a pharmacy here, you will get that instead.

The full version of this reasoning is in vitamins and supplements from America, and the shops we buy from are listed on our stores page.
