Buying chocolate and gifts from America
A category where the arithmetic is poor and people order anyway, for reasons that are perfectly good. Here is how to do it without overpaying for air.

Let us be straightforward: on pure arithmetic, chocolate is not a good import.
From our calculator on 7 September 2026:
| US price | Lands at | Multiple | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boxed chocolates | $40 | EGP 8,253 | 4.1× |
| Larger gift box | $85 | EGP 14,975 | 3.5× |
Four times. And yet people order it every week, and they are not wrong to — because a gift is not bought on cost per gram. It is worth knowing the number, and then deciding.
Why it prices badly
Gift packaging is the problem. A presentation box is designed to look generous, which means it is large relative to what is inside, and space is charged as though it were weight (the explanation). You are paying to bring the ribbon and the void across the world.
The larger box prices *better* than the small one, for the reason that holds everywhere: more value against the same fixed costs. If you are sending chocolate, send a proper box rather than a token one — the small one is the poor value.
Heat
The other thing nobody mentions. Chocolate and Egyptian weather are not friends, and anything travelling in summer risks arriving softened or bloomed. Between roughly May and October we would steer you towards something that does not melt. This is a real consideration, not a small print one.
Better gifts, if the arithmetic matters to you
If the point is to send something lovely rather than specifically chocolate, these price far better and do not melt:
Perfume — dense, valuable, about 2.3× (guide)
A watch — about 2.1× (guide)
Small leather goods — a wallet or card holder, excellent value (guide)
Headphones — the best multiple we price, about 1.7× (guide)
A book in a beautiful edition, if you are ordering a few things anyway
The rule across all of these is the same: value concentrated into a small space. A gift that is expensive for its size is a gift that travels well.
If it is chocolate you want
Then buy the good box, order it outside the hot months where you can, and know the number in advance. That is the whole advice. We will tell you the figure before you commit and, if it is summer, we will mention the weather.
Egypt also has genuinely excellent local chocolate and patisserie, which arrives fresh and costs a fraction. For a gift that is about the gesture rather than the specific brand, that is often the better answer, and we would rather say so.
Sending from outside Egypt
If you are abroad and sending to someone here, order it through us rather than buying it there and sending it yourself — your gift then arrives with nothing to pay on arrival, instead of arriving as a bill for the person you were being generous to. That is set out in sending something to family in Egypt.
Tell us if it is a surprise and we will keep it one.
How it works here
Send the link and we come back with one fixed price in Egyptian pounds — everything inside, usually within hours. Two to three weeks from purchase, so order a month before an occasion rather than a fortnight (timing).
